ABOUT THE PROJECT

The OpenStudent project started in July 2011 to support individual educational needs of schools and other institutions. It is the newest powerful alternative to Moodle, a strong but user unfriendly application. OpenStudent offers a Knowledge Exchange Portal, a Partnership Finder (which was set to support student exchanges) and many other features like e-Test or document storage.

There are considerable advantages and special services in using OpenStudent, such as a 24/7 technical support service, 3GB free online space per school, that can be increased easily, no advertisement and a clearly arranged Graphical User Interface.

Ideas and objectives

General idea

The project's target is to provide a multilingual online-based learning platform with all 23 official EU languages supported. Schools need an individual solution to keep the level of their education increasing and OpenStudent can offer a possibility to stay on top. The idea is to support the communication between teachers and students beyond the school time. OpenStudent offers many features such as document storage, e-tests or planer and many others. One of the most important objectives is to keep the user interface clear arranged and intuitive.

OpenStudent is built up as a "module application" which means that the main applicaion is only a skeleton holding all the subapplicaions together. There is a possibility to choose free the applications that should be active or even create own application according to actual needs.

KnowledgeExchange

KnowledgeExchange is a module that should help the students in many ways. The first idea is to develop a big forum where the students could ask the others if they have any problem or are searching information for a school excercise. This should teach them to research and ask the others instead of copying whole homework from the internet.

This module consits of two big parts and the second is even more ambitious than the first. The idea is to develop a EU-wide network of schools where the students could themselves search an exchange partner and realize a student per student exchange. The best way to learn a language is to speak and hear it. In order of that the KnowledgeExchange matches to the idea of European Union to connect the people of Europe.
